Stan Laurel 50th Deathaversary February 23, 2015

Stan Laurel died on this date in 1965, 50 years ago.

Reportedly Stan Laurel was on his deathbed when he suddenly said "I wish I was skiing."  His nurse asked "Oh, Mr. Laurel, do you ski?"
Stan said "No, but I'd rather be skiing than doing what I'm doing."

On Findadeath we found the birth and death addresses for Stan.

Here is fascinating color footage and sappy music from Stan's funeral.

Death Hag sticker of the Day! P.T. Barnum

The Lovely Leah from Bridgeport, CT sends us this lovely Death Hag Sticker placement at the final resting place of P.T. Barnum.

I'm sending along two photos (a full view and a close-up) I took of my Death Hag sticker gracing the monument of P.T. Barnum. Phineas Taylor Barnum was considered the consummate showman of his day, and he founded the Barnum & Bailey Circus (later Ringling Brothers) - "The Greatest Show on Earth." He was also an author, philanthropist and mayor of the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Barnum is buried in Mountain Grove Cemetery - which he designed -  in Bridgeport. A statue of the showman stands in the city's Seaside Park.

Yet another disappointment, P.T. never actually said, "There's a sucker born every minute."

Here's the story.

Why does the truth always have to fuck up a good story?

Sandra Dee 10th Deathaversary February 20, 2015

It was ten years ago today that we said "Goodbye" to Sandra Dee.

Actress Sandra Dee was the embodiment of teen virtue and virginity in a series of films in the late 1950s and 1960s. Off screen, however, Dee struggled with anorexia throughout her film career (which was essentially over by the time she turned 30), and in later life drug abuse, alcoholism and depression.

A quart of scotch a day.

"Bad things happened to little Sandra Dee."  - Dodd Darin, Sandra's son

Death Hag Sticker of the Day - Phil Spector's mailbox

Ghost Adventures!

You never know who you'll see at the Hollywood Sign.

I shot an episode of Ghost Adventures last night.

Scott Michaels and Zak Bagans

"The view is incredible.  I wish you were a girl.  It's really romantic up here."

Last night it was all about Peg.  Peg Entwistle who jumped from the Hollywood Sign in 1932.

Peg's story is important to me.  She put the "Dark Side of Hollywood" on the map.

It felt like I was helping give Peg the acknowledgment she never got when she was alive.

Findadeath Update Bernie Mac 1957 - 2008

Bernie Mac
October 5, 1957 - August 9, 2008
"I'm so black, I leave fingerprints on coal."

Funny guy Bernie - Born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough  grew up on the South-Side of Chicago.

Booty Call, Oceans Thirteen, Soul Men, Charlies Angels Full Throttle and 104 episodes of
The Bernie Mac Show.

Despite his success in Los Angeles, he always kept a home in Chicago.

He credited Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor as his comedy influences.

In 2005 announced that he had Sarcoidosis, a condition, a disease that inflames organs like lymph nodes and lungs.  He was supposedly in remission for 3 years.
On the 24th of July, Bernie had trouble breathing so he went to the hospital.  He was being treated for pneumonia.  Some say he got pneumonia because the sarcoidosis screwed up his immune system.

He was in ICU and hadn't been responsive since July 31.

He passed away of Sarcoidosis and pneumonia about 2am on the morning of August 9th, 2008 in Northwestern Hospital.

He was 50 years old.

His public funeral was held at the House of Hope in Chicago.  Almost 7000 people attended.

Mayor Daley and Jesse Jackson spoke.  Chris Rock, Ashton Kuther, Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle attended.

DL Hugley joked about Mac's famous wardrobe, "Bernie would wear colors that crayon hadn't even invented."

A short clip from the funeral

Cedric the Entertainer said, "This dude is a very popular guy.  You know y'all were like, 'Let me get four tickets to the funeral!'.  He's still the hottest ticket in town."

Fellow comedians mourned

Bernie is cremated and inurned in Washington Memory Gardens in Homewood, IL
