                         Country Legend Patsy Cline died in a plane crash 52 years ago today.

Death Hag Sticker Deathaversary Edition

The Day the Big Bopper Died

The Big Bopper and two others were killed in a plane crash 56 years ago today.

A couple of years ago, they DUG HIM UP!

"Jay Richardson [the Bopper's son who was born two months after his father died] stepped up beside the upper end [of the coffin].  I stood beside him.  A hush fell over the group as Rodney Landry grasped one edge of the lid and gave a tug.  After nearly half a century in the soggy ground, the lid raised smoothly and silently.  As it did, it revealed one of the most remarkable sights I've ever seen in my career.  What I saw, and what Jay Richardson saw, was not a bare skull or rotting tissue.  What we saw was the Big Bopper himself, complete with his trademark crew cut.  The skin was discolored — a mottled bluish-purple — but the features were instantly recognizable, and bore a striking resemblance to those of the man who stood beside me, getting his first glimpse of his father in the flesh."

Flight 261 January 31, 2000 RIP 88 people on board

The Air Alaska flight 261 went down on January 31, 2000 off the coast of Los Angeles, killing 88 people on board.

There is a memorial to this accident in Pierce Brothers Memorial Park in Westlake Village, CA, just a couple of doors down from Karen Carpenter's mausoleum.

The anniversary of this event was acknowledged by flowers from the airline itself.

Today is Ricky Nelson's 29th Deathaversary

Rick Nelson

May 8, 1940 - December 31, 1985

Rick (Ricky) Nelson was part of the first reality show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.

They were white.

Very long interesting story short, Rick had a significant career as a recording artist.  He started as a teen idol back when the show was in it's heyday, and continued on through adulthood.

 

Another very long story short :

he was touring and his plane crashed, killing 6.

Cause of Death:  Smoke inhalation and Thermal Burns.

Witnesses described, "It was on fire when it came over me... Smoke was just belching out of the right side."  As the two pilots scrambled from the cockpit windows, flames as high as 70 feet leapt from the wreckage, which burned for hours, well into the night.  The bodies were found huddled near the cockpit door."

How awful.
