Ellen and Stella lived on Harratt Street, not Harrett. They started dating in 1948 and Ellen moved into Stella’s West Hollywood home in 1954 where she lived until a few weeks before her death in 1999. While they were mostly open about their relationship through the bulk of Corby’s Hollywood career, she became a little more discreet after landing the role of Grandma Walton on a “family values” show. She would often introduce Stella as her “secretary” or her “friend.” The nervous studio began falling her Ellen’s caretaker after the stroke. Ellen left everything to Stella in her will. Grandpa Walton (Will Geer) was also open about his sexuality and although he was bisexual, he preferred to describe himself as a “libertine.” Family Treehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09415231049107979916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7686152431076090142.post-33463783292384706242020-08-20T10:49:16.207-07:002020-08-20T10:49:16.207-07:00Longing for a slower pace of life, remembering my...Longing for a slower pace of life, remembering my childhood and watching the Walton's. Wonderful memories and a wonderful show. I also remember Ellen in an Andy Griffith show where she, Ellen, sold Barney a car. The episode was hilarious! When the horn in the steering wheel came out like a snake at Barney, I sit here laughing now remembering that. Ellen, thank you for your roles played so well and delivered with confidence. You were a professional in every sense of the word. To Stella, Ellen's partner in life, may your memories of your life with Ellen carry you through and replay giving you warm, loving, happy memories forever. It was especially poignant as she mentions taking her mother to see the play “The Seven Year Itch” when he decides not to use the tickets. See the trivia comments on Ellen’s IMDB page where she references losing a part of herself when her real life mother passed away in the early 1960’s.
